Ikenga Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, representing Ideato North/South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, highlighted the pivotal role played by Minister Betta Edu in uncovering the alleged N44 billion fraud at the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).
Ugochinyere applauded Minister Edu’s steadfast commitment to principles, emphasizing that her refusal to compromise played a crucial role in bringing the suspected financial malfeasance to light. The minister’s unwavering stance, according to Ugochinyere, directly contributed to exposing the alleged diversion of ₦44 billion from NSIPA’s accounts into private and corporate entities associated with individuals suspected as fronts.
This revelation follows the recent suspension of NSIPA’s Chief Executive Officer and National Coordinator, Halima Shehu, amidst reports of financial irregularities. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) swiftly took action, flooding NSIPA’s Maitama office as part of their ongoing investigation into the alleged fraud.
Ugochinyere commended the EFCC for its diligent efforts in pursuing justice and called on the anti-graft agency to ensure that those found guilty are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Furthermore, the federal lawmaker dismissed as baseless the allegations of Minister Betta Edu’s involvement in a separate N3 billion NSIPA fraud, asserting that it was her resolute commitment to upholding ethical standards that aided in uncovering the larger N44 billion scandal. Ugochinyere acknowledged and praised Minister Edu for spearheading impactful reforms within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in a remarkably short timeframe.
