Renewed Hope Grant for Vulnerable Groups: Unfounded Allegations Aimed at Smearing Minister’s Reputation

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation categorically dismisses recent attempts to tarnish the reputation of Honourable Minister, Dr Betta Edu, in connection with the approval and disbursement of the sum of N585,189,500.00 for the Renewed Hope Grant for Vulnerable Groups in four states.

In adherence to due process, the Ministry, through a formal memo, communicated the approval for payment to the Accountant-General of the Federation. Regrettably, mischievous elements, previously associated with baseless allegations, have sought to link the Minister to unfounded claims.

It is crucial to emphasize that the approved funds are designated for the implementation of Grants to vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states. The initiative, known as the Renewed Hope Grant for Vulnerable Groups, is a social intervention scheme of the federal government, administered by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Contrary to the attempts to create a false narrative, the Minister has diligently carried out her duties, visiting various parts of the country to fulfill her mandate. Notably, the Renewed Hope Grant was successfully launched in Kogi state, with positive testimonials from recipients. Subsequent launches occurred in Akwa Ibom and Cross River in December 2023, while others are scheduled in the coming weeks.

The Ministry urges the public to disregard the baseless allegations and recognize the nefarious motives behind the circulation of the memo. Honourable Minister Dr Betta Edu remains unwavering in her commitment to duty and unbiased service delivery.
