In the run-up to the February 2023 election, as different aspirants spring up with the sole aim of being the President of the largest black nation globally and the most populous country in Africa, BOLA AHMED TINUBU was exemplary among all.
As if that was not enough, in one of his political meetings in Ogun State, he made the now popular phrase ‘EMI LO KAN’ claiming the presidency as his own and his turn.
Most Nigerian parents quickly tap into the affirmation, religious bodies took it personally in their praying grounds, all affirming positivity as their turn.
The 71-year-old Bola Tinubu against all odds was declared the winner of the keenly contested election with the renewed hope mantra, everyone began to envisage the progress the country would have witnessed if M.K.O Abiola had emerged winner of the 1993 presidential election.
May 29, 2023, was the beginning of the journey of an administration not well defined by Nigerians, in his popular inaugural speech as President Bola Tinubu said, “Subsidy is gone” in a country that relies solemnly on crude oil for survival with ravaging Cabals who the presidency couldn’t dare to mentioned or kick away being in charge of the subsidy, Nigerians began to witness a biblical Moses turned Pharaoh.
The immediate rise in the pump price of PMS, inflation in the prices of foods, continuous rise in the disparity between the Naira and Dollar, high rise in kidnapping, killings, and the exodus movement of Nigerians to foreign countries, all in the name of Japaing.
The question that begs for an answer is ‘Who are the ordinary Nigerians under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration’?
In the street of Lagos where the President comes from, the Phrase ‘EMI LO KAN’ now has a negative meaning.
The inglorious reign of former President Buhari has now been seen as a better option to the present day by Nigerians.
President Tinubu, who is acknowledged as a master strategist, is now in charge of the Israelites. Unfortunately, despite handpicking his cabinet members, the rod, which is God’s mandate, has refused to turn into a snake.
Are Nigerians going to tarry in Egypt like the biblical Israelites? As the current administration countdowns to marking the first year in office, it is evident that the leadership attributes being witnessed in Nigeria are taking the same pattern.
Corruption has taken another dimension under the current administration, yet again, just like the bad old days.
