It is not only surprising but also annoying with the way the FPRO said security is the collective responsibility of Nigerians. No one is disputing the fact that we have roles to play as citizens to contribute to effectiveness in security but the security of lives and properties is more of the responsibility of law enforcement agents whose salaries are being paid with tax payers monies.
It would have been better and more easier if there are much more collaborative efforts between the citizens and the police which is happening even though it’s rare but betrayal of trusts from officers of the NPF is too rampant, which has made the citizens more fearful and has caused lots of people to distance themselves from officers of the NPF.
In addition, we should also be mindful of the fact that there is no enforcement of the whistle blower protection Act. There are people who walk to the police as whistleblowers and either end up dead or traumatized. I am a living example.
I wrote a petition Zone 2 Command as a whistle blower and despite the fact that there were confessional statements obtained from the suspects as confirmation during investigation, the police did not only set them free after receiving bribe but also exposed me to be the brain behind the whistle blowing which LED to me being poisoned at my former place of work and my appointment was also unlawfully terminated. The case of unlawful termination of appointment is still ongoing at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
The most surprising part of it is that the suspects got the support of Ogun State Government through the Commissioner for Education, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu who was said to had written to Zone 2 Command and stated that the governor was aware of the case of corruption but wants the police to stop investigation as the suspects got the state government’s support to carry out criminal acts as compensation. But till now, I am still surprised to realize that a civilian could order the police to stop or suspend investigation of a criminal case.
When I informed the FPRO through their email for lodging complaints, he asked me to write another petition to Alagbon and confirmed that what’s the officers at the Zonal Monitoring Unit or at Zone 2 Command did was wrong even though it took time for the FPRO to respond to my messages until I told him it was Journalists who told me to contact him and narrate my ordeal.
I did not do as instructed because betrayal of trust is not an issue that can be forgotten so soon.
Till date, the FPRO did not follow up on the issue or give words of encouragement as a form of psychological support.
Yet, he expects citizens to continue to risk their lives in the name of giving information to the police?
FPRO said that the police can track anyone within 2 hours and get them arrested, yet kidnappers are on the rampage, calling victims relatives with unhidden phone numbers, and the NPF cannot track and get them arrested? The same FPRO was trying to discourage Nigerians from using the only slogan, giving us hope and even issuing a press release to that effect? That must have been a delusional statement from figments of his imagination. I still maintain the fact that We no go gree for anybody!
Recently, Muyiwa (FPRO) made mention of the fact that paying ransom is a criminal act. Did he see what happened to Nabeeha’s family, or did he choose to be unemotional and lack empathy? Does he think people are paying for ransom willingly? Does he know the pain of losing a loved one or going through bereavement? He has always been insensitive to issues (even serious ones), which is not a right attitude to portray as an image maker of a reputable agency like NPF!
Despite the economic hardship, who will raise such huge funds just to give it out to criminals?
I am not sure the FPRO is mentally stable, or else he won’t lack empathy.
The citizens are even suspecting that law enforcement agents might be involved in this criminal acts which has made it more difficult for them to be apprehended, we saw how some officers were paraded for getting involved in robbery.
I am using this medium to call upon the IGP to replace Muyiwa with an Officer who is well grounded in public relations, who is empathetic and can respond to issues of great concern without dragging the NPF to disrepute or sounding so cruel and unprofessional.
