Yesterday, Saturday 13 April 2024, the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, came under attack by members of the Yoruba Nation movement. Responding swiftly to the incident, troops engaged the attackers, who were clad in foreign military attire and armed with dangerous weapons.
In a shootout with the troops, the Yoruba Nation adherents were subdued by superior firepower, leading to their retreat in disarray. Nine members of the group were apprehended, and authorities recovered a Semi Automatic Pump Action rifle along with ammunition.
Security forces are currently in pursuit of the fleeing attackers, and the situation is now under control. The safety and security of the area are being closely monitored, with assurances from Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure public safety.
Citizens are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate security agencies. Maintaining peace and order in the region remains a top priority for the authorities.
