Recent developments shed light on the illicit activities of Apostle Theophilus Oloche Ebonyi, the General Overseer of Faith On The Rock Ministry International, who was apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Investigations reveal that Ebonyi amassed substantial wealth, including a 23-room hotel, a pure water factory, two blocks of a Primary School, two bungalow offices in Nyanya-Gwandara, New Karu, Abuja, and a five-bedroom duplex in Karsana, Abuja, using funds obtained through fraudulent means involving his subscribers. Additionally, he utilized the proceeds to establish a live broadcast channel equipped with studio facilities for his Theobarth Global Foundation.
In 2023, Ebonyi was apprehended by the EFCC for allegedly defrauding his congregation and other individuals using counterfeit grants purportedly from the Ford Foundation, totaling N1,319,040,274.31.
His modus operandi involved advertising an intervention project through his NGO, Theobarth Global Foundation, falsely claiming that the Ford Foundation was offering a $20,000,000 grant to aid the less privileged. Victims, including NGOs and individuals, were persuaded to subscribe as beneficiaries by paying for registration forms and clusters, each amounting to N1,800,000. This scheme enabled Ebonyi to accumulate N1,391,040,274.31.
Investigations confirmed that the Ford Foundation had no association with Ebonyi or his NGO, disclaiming any involvement with them. The EFCC has also identified five properties acquired by Ebonyi as proceeds of his fraudulent activities.
Despite his arrest, Ebonyi reportedly continues to exploit social media platforms to promote his fictitious grant from the Ford Foundation, targeting unsuspecting individuals and organizations across Nigeria.
