In a recent development, the Nigerian Army (NA) has taken swift and decisive action following an investigation into the alleged theft of armoured cables at the Dangote Refinery premises on April 14th, 2024.
According to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani were found to have abandoned their duty post and were in unauthorized possession of the materials. As a result, they have been charged and summarily tried under the Armed Forces Act CAP A20 of the Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
Following due process, the soldiers were found guilty and subsequently dismissed from the NA with immediate effect. They have also been handed over to relevant authorities for further prosecution.
This action, taken in line with the NA’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and discipline, underscores the army’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and criminality within its ranks.
