In response to escalating reports of phone seizures for extortion purposes in various parts of Lagos State, Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has issued stringent directives to all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs). The directives were announced during a meeting held on Monday, April 8, 2024.
CP Fayoade expressed deep concern over the persistence of this criminal activity despite ongoing police operations aimed at curbing such offenses. He instructed law enforcement officials to intensify security measures, including increased neighborhood and foot patrols, particularly in identified trouble spots.
Furthermore, CP Fayoade cautioned that any officer whose jurisdiction experiences such incidents would face severe sanctions. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to eradicate criminal activities and maintain public safety.
The police command acknowledged the vigilance of citizens who reported such incidents and urged continued cooperation in combating crime.
In a related development, CP Fayoade ordered the immediate prosecution of 303 suspects apprehended during weekend raids conducted by Area Commanders, DPOs, and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) across the state. The suspects will undergo careful screening before legal proceedings commence.
The Lagos State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
