The Ikorodu Division of the Justice Forum Caucus, a pivotal segment of the Lagos All Progressives Congress, celebrated the New Year in grand style on February 2, 2024. The vibrant event unfolded at the Ikorodu APC Secretariat, Ota-Ona Road, marking a harmonious convergence of religious prayers led by Alhaji Shoyiga and Deacon Funmilayo Osuolale, bridging the gap between Muslim and Christian perspectives.
Distinguished guests included former Deputy Governor Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun, former Commissioner of Agriculture Chief Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, and a host of other prominent figures, comprising elders, leaders, local government chairmen, councillors, supervisory councillors, LG/LCDA executives, ward executives, and dedicated party faithfuls from the Ikorodu Division.
Alhaji Gafar M.A, Chairman of the Divisional Justice Forum Caucus for the APC, set the tone with a spirited welcome speech, expressing gratitude for the party’s electoral victories. He lauded the support and hard work of party members, emphasizing the APC’s leading role and urging continued dedication to spreading the party’s message. The event celebrated achievements and unity within the party, with Alhaji Gafar extending appreciation to elected officers and the organizing committee. He concluded by expressing hope for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the country to greater heights.
Chief Oye Solebo offered prayers for all party faithfuls, urging them to work assiduously for the party in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun encouraged members to actively engage in their roles at the ward and local government levels, gearing up for the 2025 Chairmanship and Councillorship elections, as well as the 2027 general elections. He also extended prayers for the well-being of party leaders.
Prince A. Ogunleye extended warm greetings, expressing joy at the unity displayed across all caucuses. He encouraged collaboration between the Justice Forum and Mandate Group for the advancement of Ikorodu, emphasizing the need for unity leading up to the 2025 Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in Lagos.
Alh. Jimoh Olasunkanmi Tijani, Mandate Group chairman of Ikorodu division APC, highlighted the event as a thanksgiving for the new year and a joyful gathering of party members. Tijani emphasized joblessness as a root cause of insecurity, urging governments to provide employment opportunities for youths. He traced the historical roots of caucuses within Lagos APC, namely Justice Forum and Mandate Group, back to Pa. Awolowo and Aswiaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Mandate Group originated from Tinubu’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organization and evolved into a platform for aspiring candidates after his two-term governorship.
During an interview with Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, he emphasized his intention to run for re-election in 2025, stating, “I am the current Council chairman, and I believe my performance merits a second term. I have demonstrated exceptional leadership thus far.”
In his expression of gratitude, Hon. Adewusi Sulaimon extended his thanks to all attendees, encompassing GAC leaders, council chairmen, party leaders, wards, and dignitaries, for their enthusiastic involvement in the celebratory event.
