The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Godfrey Oscar Opara, a land agent, on Wednesday before Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt. The charges, amounting to N25.4 million, include obtaining money under false pretence, contravening the Advance Fee Fraud, and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.
Details:
- Charge 1: Opara allegedly obtained N9.2 million from Sobomabo Amachree between October 16, 2020, and February 1, 2022, falsely claiming ownership of one and a half plots in Akwu Otula, Ngbakiri, Okemeni, Rumuolumeni, Obi/Akpor LGA, Rivers State, property of Mr. Anthony Omiete.
- Charge 2: In 2022, Opara allegedly obtained N16.2 million from Mr. Ibim Simeon Dakubo falsely claims ownership of two plots within the same land parcel.
Legal Proceedings:
- After pleading “not guilty,” the defendant was granted bail at One Million Naira with two sureties not below grade level 12, employed by either the River State Government or the Federal Government, residing in Port Harcourt, and possessing a landed property with a Certificate of Occupancy.
- The defendant was remanded in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service until bail conditions are met. The trial is scheduled to commence on May 6, 2024.
