Operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended Captain Nuhu Haruna on accusations of criminal breach of trust amounting to N1,020,000,000.
According to reports, the arrest came following a complaint lodged by a petitioner who claimed to have engaged Haruna in a foreign exchange transaction worth N1,020,000,000 in December 2023. Allegedly, the petitioner transferred the said amount to Haruna’s account with the expectation of receiving its dollar equivalent. However, investigations revealed that the petitioner never received the agreed-upon funds despite Haruna providing falsified evidence of payment.
Preliminary findings suggest that Haruna, purporting to be an airline captain, diverted the funds for personal gain, utilizing them to purchase properties and vehicles allegedly intended for his prospective airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services. Among the identified assets are a landed property acquired for N155,000,000 and another for N350,000,000, as well as three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses branded with the Air Unity Aviation Services logo, and four luxury vehicles.
The EFCC has stated that Haruna will face prosecution upon the completion of the ongoing investigations.
