In a disheartening turn of events, Moniepoint customer USMAN BANKOLE OLAJUWON recently suffered a substantial loss of ₦9.6 million to a cunning fraudster following the theft of his phone, as reported by TndOnline News.
The distressing incident occurred on December 27th, 2023, when Olajuwon’s phone, having a Moniepoint App was stolen. Exploiting the stolen device, the fraudster executed a series of unauthorized transactions, depleting ₦9.6 million from the victim’s account and leaving him in financial turmoil.
Despite immediate efforts to secure the Moniepoint account through a secondary phone and numerous emails to the bank, Olajuwon received no response. The fraudster successfully altered the user’s bank PIN, facilitating the systematic transfer of the entire balance.
Upon reaching out to the Moniepoint press unit via email, they responded, “While this is an unfortunate incident for the affected customer, it’s important to reiterate that Moniepoint MFB’s platform remains secure, and there was no breach of our systems. We are actively investigating the case in collaboration with the customer and the authorities, adhering to all CBN regulations. At Moniepoint, safeguarding customer data is a top priority. We continuously enhance our security measures and strongly encourage our customers to practice vigilance in protecting their personal information.”
