The attention of the public and relevant stakeholders is hereby drawn to recent developments in the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward-level selection process for Ward F1, Surulere Local Government Area.
Background:
Six (6) aspirants purchased the APC nomination forms, and five (5) were officially cleared after the screening exercise. However, before the official release of the screening results, one aspirant began parading himself as the “chosen candidate.”
Key Issues Raised:
- Preemptive Declaration: Despite the pending screening outcome, the said aspirant declared himself the candidate, raising concerns about due process.
- Alleged Undue Influence: It is alleged that an associate linked to Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila’s camp contacted other aspirants, pressuring them to congratulate the individual.
- Only two (2) out of the five cleared aspirants complied.
- The remaining three (3) aspirants demanded transparency, seeking clarification on how the candidate was selected—a concern that remains unaddressed.
- Failed Reconciliation Attempt:
- A meeting was convened by local party leaders at the residence of a ward leader to foster unity.
- Aspirants were urged to support the self-proclaimed candidate, but the three dissenting aspirants rejected the appeal, citing a lack of fairness and due process.
Call to Action:
We hereby call on the APC leadership at the Local Government, State, and National levels to:
- Investigate this matter urgently to ensure compliance with internal democracy.
- Provide clarity on the candidate selection process to restore confidence among members.
- Uphold fairness and transparency to maintain the party’s credibility and grassroots trust.
The integrity of our great party depends on justice, equity, and adherence to due process.
