Ogun State House of Assembly has called on relevant agencies and stakeholders in charge of palliative and other public spirited individuals interested in giving back to the people to always take preventive measures in controlling crowd associated with such to gestures to avert the recent stampede incidents that occurred in Oyo and Anambra States as well as Abuja.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, gave the charge while responding to the presentation of the Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, who spoke under matters of public urgent importance during today’s plenary at the Assembly, Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Elemide, who commiserated with the families of victims of the recent stampede, including the organisers of the events, who had taken it upon themselves to give back to the people in need, also assured that the Assembly would soon put together a legislation that would streamline events that required crowd to prevent such occurrence in the State.
He called on the relevant authorities including stakeholders in crowd management to be proactive in handling crowd management in the State to prevent any forms of stampede.
Earlier in his submission, Hon. Adeleye sought the need to prevent the incident of poor crowd control that led to the recent ugly incident that claimed the lives of innocent children and others in Ibadan, Anambra and Abuja, saying as the representatives of the people, the Assembly had a duty to put together a regulation meant to prevent stampede.
He also called on the relevant agencies including Ministries of Culture and Tourism as well as Environment and the Local Government Councils amongst others to put measures in place to avert any form of stampede; while urging inter-agency collaboration to set up a task force that would be in charge of any event requiring crowd control and permit for effective management of crowd in the State.
