In a statement issued today, 17th April, 2024 by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the Nigerian Army (NA) expressed deep concern over the alleged involvement of two of its personnel in a reported case of theft at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.
According to the statement, vigilant troops and private security operatives at the refinery prevented the criminal act, highlighting the NA’s commitment to maintaining ethical standards.
The suspects, who have been identified and are currently in custody, were reportedly hired by a civilian contractor named Mr. Smart to retrieve Armoured cables left on the refinery’s premises. However, upon approaching the security post, the contractor absconded, leaving the soldiers behind.
Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the soldiers’ involvement. Additionally, the stolen cables have been recovered and secured.
The NA assured the public of its dedication to discipline and integrity, emphasizing that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against the perpetrators.
Collaboration between the NA and the Dangote Refinery management is ongoing to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure accountability.
