MohBad: We are using this medium to send our condolences to the family, colleagues, and Nigerians as this is a rude shock to all of us. May God give us fortitude to bear the loss.
It is important to note that being a qualified Nurse is not just about wearing the uniform/scrub bet having acquired the necessary skills and knowledge from a recognized and accredited institution, after successful training, being licenced by the regulatory body under the law which is; Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
Nurses are not trained by doctors, and neither are they trained in private hospitals.
Nursing is a profession and not a vocation. There is nothing like “Auxiliary nurse” under the law, it is either you are a Nurse or a quack!. It is sad to realize that a lot of people are encouraging quackery in our noble Profession.
Quackery has caused lots of complications, including deaths, to people’s lives in Nigeria, as the case of Mohbad exposed this particular one because the life of a celebrity was involved.
It is so unfortunate that there are lots of people who are educated but uninformed. Public perception is one of the reasons quackery is still being encouraged in Nigeria despite posing a threat to people’s lives.
However, NANNM executives were at the Lagos Police Command, where it was confirmed to the Lagos State NANNM chairman that the arrested suspect is not licensed by NMCN but just a quack. We urge the general public and media practitioners to desist from addressing quacks as * nurses*.
