The Rauf Aregbesola Flagship Primary Health Care Centre in Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area officially launched the Remote Monitoring and Supervision Modular System (REMASMS) on Friday, September 27, 2024. This innovative system aims to improve healthcare access and quality for residents in Lagos State Health District 1.

During the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Mrs. Olufunmilayo Bankole, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District 1, announced the introduction of a remote monitoring device designed to enhance primary healthcare (PHC) services. This technology allows PHC doctors to connect with specialists at secondary facilities for real-time consultations and patient monitoring. By facilitating live communication, consultants can provide immediate advice and outline management plans, significantly improving care efficiency. This system is expected to minimize unnecessary transfers to secondary facilities, ensuring that patients receive appropriate care at the PHC level, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality rates in antenatal and pediatric care.

Dr. Bankole expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the project’s approval and funding, emphasizing the importance of community engagement. She urged residents to first seek treatment at their local PHCs rather than going directly to secondary facilities. By doing so, patients can access essential services and alleviate the congestion currently affecting secondary health care centers. The initiative aims to strengthen the healthcare system by providing comprehensive care within the community, making it easier for individuals to receive timely and effective medical attention close to home.

Hon. Princess Olabisi Adebajo, Executive Chairman of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area, officially launched the Remote Monitoring and Supervision Modular System (REMASMS) at the Rauf Aregbesola Flagship Primary Health Care Centre. In her goodwill message, she expressed her honor in hosting the Governor’s wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, a recognized advocate for health and wellness in Lagos State. Princess Adebajo highlighted the significant advancements in healthcare access, attributing these improvements to the First Lady’s tireless efforts in enhancing primary healthcare infrastructure.

Princess Adebajo commended the state government’s initiatives that have led to remarkable progress in reducing maternal and child mortality rates. She emphasized the importance of health awareness and education in promoting healthy lifestyles, particularly in rural areas. She also acknowledged the collaborative efforts among stakeholders essential in achieving health goals and expressed gratitude for the partnerships that have supported various healthcare programs within the community.

Notable achievements mentioned by Princess Adebajo include the commissioning of the Opeki PHC, repairs of ambulances, renovations at the Rauf Aregbesola PHC, and the provision of healthcare palliatives for vulnerable populations. Additionally, she highlighted successful partnerships with private organizations to offer free eye treatments and surgeries. Concluding her remarks, Princess Adebajo reaffirmed the community’s commitment to supporting the First Lady’s initiatives, acknowledging her selfless service in enhancing healthcare delivery in Lagos State.

Mrs. Omolola Sanyaolu, the wife of Egbe-Idimu LCDA, representing the Lagos State First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the significance of REMASMS in bridging gaps between primary and secondary healthcare. She stated, “This system will not only allow real-time monitoring of health facilities but also facilitate remote consultations with specialists, ensuring that no resident is left behind in accessing quality healthcare.”

Mrs. Sanyaolu commended the leadership of Dr. Funmi Bankole and her team for their dedication in bringing the project to fruition. She noted that the implementation of this technology aligns with the THEMES+ Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to enhance health accessibility across the state.

The REMASMS initiative aims to deliver real-time diagnoses, support health interventions, and improve resource management, ultimately reducing the burden on secondary health facilities and addressing health issues at earlier stages.

Community leaders and health professionals were encouraged to embrace this new system, with a call to action for other health districts to replicate the initiative to further enhance healthcare delivery across Lagos State.
