In a disturbing incident captured on video, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Luka Bashayi from the Ogudu Area Command of the Lagos State Police Command has been exposed demanding a N10,000 bribe from a motorist in Lagos.
The incriminating video circulated online, catching the attention of concerned citizens and prompting responses from State and Force spokesmen, SP Benjamin Hundeyin and ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The footage shows ASP Bashayi sharing an Access Bank account number and instructing the car owner to transfer N10,000 immediately to avoid being taken to the police station.
While the reason for the demand is not clear in the video, the exchange between the ASP and the driver includes the statement, “make am N10,000, sharp sharp and go now,” to which the driver responds, “I no get.”
The video was shared on social media platforms with captions like, “Awwwn, let’s make this hardworking officer famous. RT when you hear it,” by @the_Lawrenz, and another user, Chikwus, humorously captioned it, “Very hardworking Nigeria police officer, ‘do sharp sharp and go nw,’ u know the matter 😅😅😭😭 @Princemoye1 see ur men.”
In response, SP Hundeyin affirmed, “We will not gloss over this. He is ASP Luka Bashayi, serving at Ogudu Area Command. Meanwhile, @Lagos_PoliceCRU has commenced actions on this.” ACP Adejobi condemned the incident, stating, “This is not allowed, so shameful. It’s condemned. We need more info about this. We will fish him out.”
