The vibrant town of Ijebu Ife is preparing for a cultural spectacle as the 2024 Ijebu Ife Day Celebration draws near. Scheduled for Saturday, 12th October 2024, this year’s event promises to be a headliner, gathering the elite and showcasing the best of Ijebu Ife’s rich cultural heritage in an atmosphere of excitement and pride.
According to Otunba Kamal Owode, the Oraderemo of Ijebu Ife and Acting Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, the 2024 edition will be nothing short of a blockbuster event. “We are putting together a festival that will stand out in its uniqueness. This year, we aim to showcase the strength, history, and unity of Ijebu Ife in an electrifying celebration,” said Otunba Owode.
A major highlight of this year’s celebration will be the launch of a N100 million Community Development Project and Empowerment Programme, aimed at driving sustainable development and creating opportunities for the people of Ijebu Ife. This groundbreaking initiative will be unveiled during the event, adding a powerful layer of impact to the already monumental celebration.
The prelude to the main event has already kicked off with a football competition, engaging various quarters of Ijebu Ife in a thrilling battle for supremacy on the field. The grand finals will be one of the highlights of the main celebration, keeping spirits high and the competition fierce.
A major crowd-puller will be the Ikokore Night, set for Friday, 11th October 2024. A gastronomic celebration of Ijebu’s iconic cuisine, the event will be chaired by Baale Femi Ajayi, retired Assistant Comptroller of Customs, and husband to Chief (Mrs.) Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly. Expect an evening filled with culinary delights, live performances, and a full house of the town’s top personalities, all indulging in a rich cultural and culinary experience.
The main event on Saturday, 12th October 2024, kicks off at 10 a.m. sharp with a star-studded lineup of activities. Hosted by Alaiyeluwa Oba Adesesan Afolorunso Oguntayo FCA, J.P., the Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife, the celebration will be chaired by Chief Adesoye Gboyega Tunde, Osi Balogun of Ijebuland and Balogun Egbe Bobagunte (Okunrin) Akile-Ijebu, with Chief Amb. Zainab Afolabi Yemitan, Iya Egbe Jagunmolu Omooba Akile-Ijebu, as Chairperson.
The entertainment highlight will be a performance by the legendary Queen Salawa Abeni, the Waka Queen, who will be taking center stage with her signature sound. Her pulsating beats and energetic performance are set to turn up the vibe, leaving the audience captivated and entertained throughout the day.
