The Ijebu Congress, under the leadership of its Chairman, Prince Bunmi Mebude, proudly celebrates Chief Chris Olufunmilola Okunowo, Bobasuwa II, and his wife, Erelu Morenikeji Okunowo, for their historic investiture as Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu and Yeye Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu, respectively. This prestigious honour, to be conferred by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on December 7, 2024, acknowledges the Okunowos’ exemplary service to God, their community, and humanity across Ijebuland.
The occasion is particularly significant as it coincides with two remarkable milestones in their lives: their golden jubilee wedding anniversary and Chief Okunowo’s 77th birthday.
Chief Olufunmilola Okunowo, a distinguished lawyer, philanthropist, and entrepreneur, is widely respected for his transformative contributions to business, philanthropy, and leadership in Ijebuland and beyond. Currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ijebu Congress, Chief Okunowo has been instrumental in advancing initiatives that promote growth and development in the region.
In addition to his new title, Chief Okunowo has a decorated history of leadership and service, including his tenure as Chairman of Sony Music Entertainment (Nigeria) Limited and President of the Institute of Directors (2019–2021). His expertise in aviation equipment supply and aircraft sales underscores his versatility and dedication to excellence.
Erelu Morenikeji Okunowo, a renowned music executive and former CEO of Sony Music Entertainment (Nigeria) Limited, has been a formidable partner to Chief Okunowo Together, they co-founded Mastersound Ventures, making lasting contributions to Nigeria’s music industry.
Prince Bunmi Mebude described Chief Okunowo’s achievements as a beacon of inspiration for generations. “Chief Olufunmilola Okunowo exemplifies visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to the progress of Ijebuland. His investiture as Asiwaju Onigbagbo Akile Ijebu places him among the league of Ijebu greats, such as Chief Timothy Adeola Odutola and Chief Michael Olasubomi Balogun His contributions to philanthropy, business, and community service have left an indelible mark on our society,” Mebude remarked.
As Okunowos celebrate this trio of milestones, the Ijebu Congress extends its deepest gratitude for their impact on Ijebuland and their enduring legacy of faith and service. The Congress also prays for their continued success, health, and fulfilment in the years ahead.
