Hon. Sonde-Ikokoh empowered and distributed Reusable Pads to Hundreds of Girls across Abeokuta South Schools in celebration of International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025
In a powerful commemoration of International Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025, Hon. Sonde-Ikokoh Iyanuoluwa representing Ogun Central at the Nigerian Youth Parliament in collaboration with Abeokuta South Local Government and Iyanu Reusable Pad Empowerment Project (IRPEP), successfully conducted an impactful outreach focused on ending period poverty and empowering girls through menstrual education and sustainable hygiene solutions.
Over three hundred students across three secondary schools in Abeokuta South LGA were reached with the training and distribution of reusable sanitary pads and interactive sensitization sessions on menstrual hygiene management. The initiative aimed not only to provide essential sanitary products but also to create safe spaces for dialogue around periods, hygiene, and dignity.

The outreach, led by Hon. Sonde-Ikokoh Iyanoluwa, a Member of the Nigerian Youth Parliament representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, and the founder of Iyanu Reusable Pad and Empowerment Foundation, she expressed that the event was “a major step forward in breaking menstrual taboos, reducing school absenteeism, and restoring dignity to girls in underserved communities.”
Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez, Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, proudly sponsored the initiative and Emphasized the importance of government and community collaboration in tackling menstrual inequity.

The distributed pads were produced under the Iyanu Reusable Pad Empowerment Project, a social enterprise empowering girls with safe, eco-friendly, and cost-effective menstrual products, while also training them in pad-making skills for sustainability.
This outreach aligns with the global theme for Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025: “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld” and reinforces local efforts to ensure no girl is left behind due to her menstrual cycle.

The organizers express their deep gratitude to all other sponsors, facilitators, volunteers, school leaders and supporters who contributed to the successful implementation of this outreach.
