Member of 10th legislature REPRESENTING Sagamu I Offin State constituency
Mr. Speaker and my Distinguished Honorable colleagues, It is with deep sense of honour, humility, and mostly gratitude to Almighty Allah for His favour and infinite mercies.
May I also express my deep gratitude to the great political platform, the People’s Democratic Party PDP for providing me with great opportunity to represent the party at the state’s hallow chamber.
It is expected of me as an elected lawmaker in the next four years, that my primary responsibility shall be to sponsor bills that will have direct impact on the people of my constituency and beyond my political constituency. Looby and seek government’s support to help my constituents better their lives it’s indeed that I express my confidence that I will not relent my efforts at ensuring that the people of the constituency enjoy all state government’s opportunities.
As a legislature, lobbying is part of our business and loyalty is needed when it comes to this aspect with the progressive rapport and cordial relationship I have been having, even as newly elected member, I will try in my capacity to lobby the honourable house to bring the government’s presence to my constituency.
STATE OF OUR ROAD
Sagamu Ogijo road has come under the spotlight once again and this time, not for the good due to the driving rain.
Mr. Speaker, Sagamu has one of the worst roads in Ogun state, from Sagamu, Sotubo to Ogijo, Emuren-Igbolo roads are in ugly sight among many other places in Sagamu community, its being a sorry state for the road users who ply these roads on a daily basis.
Almost all the Sagamu township roads are in deplorable condition. The poor state of the rural roads should no longer be neglected. It is time to give rural roads the needed facelift and make them accessible.
Sagamu to Ikenne Road which has been abandoned for many years requires government intervention, likewise Ayepe road that leds to local government office can’t be excluded either.
Additionally, Ode Lemo road was initiated by previous administration and on behalf of my people we seek the state government help to make this road accessible by the people going to Ijebu-Ode, Epe and even Ikorodu-Lagos who considered this root as their alternative road.
Intense rainstorms have caused many tragedy due to bad road condition and lack of drainage system and encourages evacuations, closed downtowns, and stranded hundreds in sagamu which included a boy of 14 years old flown away by erosion few months back around Awolowo market area. As the flooding intensify, roadways will need quick repair and drainage system. I appeal to the state government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun to offer us support.
For too long, our local government have been underfunded as a matter of developmental project — despite being centers of commerce and industry. This particular local government also contributes big to the state government in term of internal government revenue and we have got many more investors willing to chip in. The bigger the size of our development in Sagamu community the larger the opportunity it’d creates for the state economy.
OUR EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION
It is globally accepted that education is the bedrock of any well-meaning nation, and should be pursued with all vigour and sense of seriousness towards stimulating growth and development. In the same vein, it is also true that objective cannot be met where there is pervasive infrastructural decay in our educational sector.
Mr. Speaker, Teachers in Ogun state deserve decent working conditions and pay. It is agreed that the low compensation for teachers discourages many of them from entering the classrooms. Provision for well-structured and resourced induction programs for newly employed teachers should be accepted as our standard practice in Ogun state.
However, let’s us together to ensure our public school teachers have the best resources they need to effectively and with dignity educate our children. It’s unnecessary to debate whether all public school students benefitted from government intervention so far.
Let us not be distracted by what they say but what we see, which is to ensure we visit both primary and secondary schools centres to locate their needs. Let us stand together for what we know is right.
OUR HEALTH INSTITUTION
Health is truly wealth if we improve access to effective and efficient healthcare services for all.
Mr Speaker, as matter of urgent public importance should be placed on issues relating to scanty of primary healthcare centres in some areas of the state. Inadequate facilities and lack of enough medical personnel in most of the primary health care centres should be addressed as a matter of urgent.
Mr. Speaker, every ward in Ogun state deserves a well-equipped public health center for effective medical attention of the residents.
This is an important issue, every constituency deserves proper medical attention, and I humbly suggest that each ward should have a functional public health centre.
Health facility need to be made very closer to our people, we have some wards that are big enough to have two or more healthcare centers due to distance.
I therefore appeal to local government chairmen in the state to ensure they have highly effective public health centres in each of our wards to cater for residents. And it should not be about structure and size of the building but provision of adequate healthcare, functional health care centres. Also there is urgent need for more personnel to be engaged as well as building of more facilities to make the provision of basic health services seamless and affordable for all.
I will always stand for what’s right.
Because it’s right to stand for every person regardless of tribe or political affiliation to feel the impact of government.
It’s right to stand for everyone to live a colorful life and free from discrimination.
And it’s right to stand for security of lives and property, clean water, and affordable child care. It’s Important to stand for what’s right because what’s right is often a duty of a legislator, a stand for what’s right when you are right in wanting to stand with what’s right. Our community deserves more better especially the aspect of security where every life will be considered as important.
My constituency has just suffered its worst unforeseen event since 1999. Serial killing, flooding, Maltreatment, Marginalization, Lack of social amenities and more. And I’m here for the sake of our common humanity, we must act boldly.
Finally, Mr. Speaker and distinguished colleagues, the same high standards of character and selflessness that I have promised you, because I am most optimistic, that with good conscience as our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, and with God on my side I will surely represent the good people of Offin state constituency that we all will be proud of.
Long live Ogun State!
Long Live the 10th House of Assembly!
Long Live Offin State Constituency!
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria!
Thank you all, and God bless.
