Fuel and Naira Scarcity: Ogun Youth Council Call for Calm

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogun State Chapter, has expressed concerns over the lingering crisis rocking the nation as a result of the fuel and naira scarcity with disheartening and dehumanizing effects on the masses and urge the youths to remain calm.
The statement was contained in a press release signed by the State Chairman of the Youth Council, Com. Abdul—Jabar Ayelaagbe, and made available to newsmen by the State Public Relations Officer 2, Comrade Farouk Olaotan Shitta, at Ogun Youth House, MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, today Wednesday February 8, 2023.
Ayelaagbe admonished the youths to exercise patience pending the outcome of the ongoing consultations, and desist from being used as agents of destruction for political or pecuniary gains citing the imperative need to avoid heating the ‘already heated’ polity, causing havoc, and making life more miserable for their fellow masses.
According to Ayelaagbe, the youth leadership of Ogun State has initiated a series of meetings and consultations with relevant stakeholders and government agencies on the best approaches to implement the policies that will not bring untoward hardship to the citizens.
“We are concerned with the plights of Nigerians, especially the youths of Ogun State, over the untoward hardship as a result of the fuel scarcity and naira redesign policy by CBN.
“While we continue to engage both State and non—State Actors in the best approaches to implement the policies that will not bring untoward hardship to the citizens, it is pertinent to note that heating the polity will only make life more miserable for us all”.
“We therefore appeal to our fellow youths to remain civil and democratic at this period, as Ogun State is known as a home of astute thinkers who should not be lured for political and pecuniary gains.
“Consequently, the attention of the Youth Council has been brought to a politically—motivated protest scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday 9 February 2023 at Ijebu-Ode, by a faceless group tagged ‘Coalition of Ogun State Youths.
“Contrary to the use of our logo to mobilize for the mischievous plan, the Youth Council wishes to inform the general public and security agencies that the youth leadership was neither consulted nor aware of any planned protest on behalf of the youths. The youth leadership will reach out to all structures of the Youth constituency through the usual procedure for any protest, should the ongoing meetings and/or efforts reach a deadlock.
“The Council hereby warns on the indiscriminate or unauthorized use of its logo or any insignia for unauthorized gathering, as this will be met with stiffer sanctions for perpetrators and unavoidably lead to prosecution,” the statement concluded.
