The Federal High Court in Lagos has mandated the final forfeiture of five prime properties connected to Major-General Umaru Mohammed, the former Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL), to the Federal Government.
Justice Chukujekwu Aneke issued the forfeiture order on Wednesday, following a motion by A.O. Mohammed, counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC revealed that investigations had uncovered fraudulent misappropriation of the properties, with proceeds from their sale being diverted for personal use by Major-General Mohammed.
In his plea for the final forfeiture, A.O. Mohammed emphasized the Commission’s adherence to the court’s directive regarding the publication of the interim forfeiture order. He argued that finalizing the forfeiture would serve the interests of justice.
Justice Aneke, after considering the EFCC’s arguments, approved the final forfeiture of the properties to the Federal Government.
The properties in question are located at:
- No. 8b, Bedwell Road, Ikoyi
- No. 3, Force Road, Ikoyi, Lagos
- No. 14, Glover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos
- No. 6, Marina, Ikoyi, Lagos
- No. 28, Point Road, Apapa, Lagos
Previously, on March 4, 2024, Justice Aneke had ordered the interim forfeiture of these properties, suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, and directed that the order be published in a national newspaper to allow any interested parties to contest the forfeiture.
