The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) of Nigeria has taken legal action against Qatar Airways Group for allegedly failing to comply with a summon issued by the commission. The lawsuit, filed at the Lagos Federal High Court, also names Mr. Kennedy K. Chirchir, the company’s Country Manager for Western Africa, as a co-defendant.
The FCCPC, represented by Barrister Tam Tamunokonbia, cited case number FHC/L/742c/2023, accusing Qatar Airways Group QC.S.C and Kennedy K. Chirchir of failing to appear before the commission on December 5, 2023. The commission alleges that the defendants did not provide sufficient cause for their absence, violating Section 33(3) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018.
During the court session on January 30, 2024, Barrister Tam Tamunokonbia informed the court that one of the defendants had yet to be served with the lawsuit. As a result, the counsel requested a short adjournment to facilitate the proper service of the charge to the defendant.
In response, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke granted the request and adjourned the matter to March 12, 2024, for the arraignment of the defendants.
