Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, along with former lawmakers including former Speakers Rt. Hon. Muyiwa Oladipo and Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi, paid glowing tributes today to their late colleague and former Deputy Speaker during the fifth and sixth legislative sessions, Hon. (Dr.) Adetokunbo Oshin, who passed away on July 27, 2024.
They honored the deceased during a special plenary session, describing him as a fearless fighter and a dedicated politician with a deep passion for the socio-economic development of the State.
The late lawmaker was noted for his extensive experience as an educationist, investor, and community leader, contributing significantly to the development of his State.
In their remarks, his fellow lawmakers from the fifth and sixth legislative sessions, including Honourables Fasiu Bakenne, Adijat Adeleye, and Odukoya, along with members of the current 10th Legislative Assembly—Honourables Segun Kaka, Babatunde Tella, Adebisi Oyedele, and Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye—described him as a father, brother, brilliant teacher, and political leader who continually strived for the betterment of the State.
They highlighted that the late lawmaker was instrumental in initiating a quarterly interface between the State lawmakers and the Governor titled “Mr. Governor Explain This,” similar to practices in the British Parliament.
In his speech, Rt. Hon. Elemide described the late Oshin as a distinguished public servant who left an indelible mark on many lives.
“This Honourable House opines that Dr. Adetokunbo Oshin came, saw, and conquered his world with unprecedented achievements while representing the people of Ijebu-North 1 State Constituency in this Honourable House, as well as in his roles as a Lecturer and Businessman.
Late Dr. Adetokunbo Oshin will be remembered for his legislative prowess and leadership during his tenures as Deputy Speaker of the 5th and 6th Assemblies.
As we lay to rest a courageous man, we take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life as a father, teacher, community representative of high integrity, and a Leader of great repute.
We believe that Late Dr. Adetokunbo Oshin is now resting in the bosom of the Lord, and we pray that the good Lord will continue to uphold his family, friends, colleagues, and the people of Ogun State.
May God, in His mercy, grant us all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and may his gentle soul continue to rest in peace (Amen),” he prayed.
Responding, Elder Olatunbosun Oshin, head of the Oshin family, along with the deceased’s wife, Mrs. Bolanle Oshin, and eldest son, Oluwole Oshin, thanked the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Speaker, and the entire Assembly members for their support and the honor bestowed upon their late patriarch through the condolence visit and special plenary.
Tributes were also paid by his colleagues at Mayflower School, Ikenne, and those who worked with him at Gateway Mortgage Bank, where he served as a non-executive director, among other roles.
