The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Prophet Adeniyi James, the General Overseer of CAC Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry in Ilorin. He stands accused of defrauding a congregant, Oluwole Babarinsa, to the tune of N3,980,000.
Babarinsa, in his petition to the Commission, recounted how Prophet James allegedly exploited him during a church service in 2021, claiming to have received a divine revelation about his imminent travel abroad. The petitioner stated that the prophet, under the guise of facilitating his relocation to Canada, extracted N3,980,000 from him.
Reportedly, Prophet James initially requested N1.7 million for facilitation purposes and an additional N2.5 million for flight tickets and travel documents processing. Babarinsa resorted to selling his possessions and borrowing money to meet the demands.
However, after enduring prolonged delays without any progress, Babarinsa demanded a refund, to no avail. Despite repeated pleas, the accused allegedly refused to reimburse the victim.
According to a statement by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewake, the suspect will face prosecution following the conclusion of investigations.
