The Ikosi-Isheri Ketu Magodo Annual Cultural Carnival 2024, themed “Our Heritage, Our Pride: A Celebration of Culture and Unity,” has come to a close, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
The two-day event, held on October 26 and 27, 2024, at the Centre for Management Development (CMD) Magodo, was a spectacular celebration of culture, unity, and progress.
The carnival showcased the rich cultural diversity of the community, featuring various ethnic groups, including Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Efik, and others. The Aworis, the original settlers of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, were honoured for their contributions to farming, fishing, and craftsmanship.
Princess Samiat Bada, the Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identity and promoting inclusivity within the diverse community.
The event featured captivating performances by A-list artists, including Malaika, Qdot, Wasiu Haruna Ishola, Ayo Maff, and Candy Bleak. Cultural dance troupes displayed their artistic prowess, and hundreds of exquisitely dressed dancers enthralled the audience.
The event was expertly hosted by the general manager of Lagos Television, Mrs. Sola Kosoko and popular Nollywood actors Babatunde Bernard, also known as Baba Tee, and Tunde Usman, known as Okele.
This year’s carnival offered free trade stands to local vendors and entrepreneurs, boosting the local economy and providing economic relief.
The presence of the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, as the Face of the 2024 Carnival, added significance to the event, emphasizing women’s involvement in governance and leadership roles.
One of the highlights of the carnival was the exciting raffle draw, where lucky community members walked away with an array of fantastic prizes, including essential household items.
Distinguished Senator Adetokunbo Mukhail Abiru, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, Chairman of APC Lagos State, and other federal representatives, traditional rulers, and dignitaries attended the event.
Ikosi-Isheri LCDA’s cultural preservation efforts align seamlessly with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, promoting a shared vision for community development.
