The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, yesterday celebrated his 62nd birthday with the inmates of Awka Custodial Centre, Anambra State Command.
In a statement issued by the Spokesman of the Custodial Centre Command, SC Francis Ekezie, yesterday in Akwa.
“Soludo was accompanied to the centre by his wife and members of the state executive council, and was welcomed by the inmate cultural group with traditional songs.
“The Controller of Corrections, Anambra State Command, Pat Chukwuemeka fsi, during his welcome speech, extolled the Governor for his giant strides in the few months he has been at the helm of affairs. He prayed to God to grant him wisdom to direct and protection for him and his family.
“The Controller, thereafter, presented a specially made birthday card from the inmates and a giant bible as his token to the Governor”, the statement added.
The Governor, while addressing the inmates, expressed his happiness to be in their midst to celebrate his birthday. He made them hopeful as his administration is seriously committed to reviewing their cases and that those who are qualified for pardon will benefit from the state amnesty. He gifted the inmates with a lot of presents and a birthday gift of five thousand Naira each to the four hundred and sixty-six inmates of the center.
He promised to come around when time permits to see how they are fairing and to look into other matters that will be of benefit to them so that their stay in the centre will not be the most painful.
