In a swift operation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command apprehended six individuals, including an Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) staff member, for allegedly vandalizing and stealing a transformer.
Spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Friday. The other suspects were identified as Kabiru Muhammed, Aliyu Usman, Abdulmalik Alhasassan, Shafi’u Suleiman, and Suleiman Ibrahim.
According to the statement, all residents of Tipper Garage, Mpape, Abuja, were apprehended around 10:45 pm on Thursday.
“Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives trailed the suspects and apprehended them as they attempted to flee with the vandalized transformer already loaded onto a crane truck in the Maitama area,” Adeh said.
The recovered items include the vandalized transformer, the crane truck, a blue Mercedes Benz, a white J5 bus, and an ash Peugeot belonging to the AEDC staff.
“The investigation is ongoing,” the statement continued. “Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, reiterates his commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property within the FCT.”
The Commissioner also urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities through the provided police emergency lines.
